Leaving large gaps (>3.5-4 hours) or too small gaps (<1-2 hours) between two meals, both cause acidity. An average meals takes 3 to 4 hours to digest, after which stomach automatically starts producing digestive acid as a natural mechanism as it expects food. If you have left a long gap, the acid produced starts eating the inner mucosal linings.
